Very simple App and easy to use. You can create your own custom spelling lists from your child’s weekly spelling lists, add recorded voice and then practice. Brilliant.
School A to Z – Publisher: NSW Department of Education and Communities, Universal, Free. Also available for Android if you follow the links on the School A to Z website.
There are lots of activities in this versatile App, and one of them is a Spelling Bee game that has three levels of difficulty and the option of creating your own custom list using your child’s Homework spelling list.

Practice Australian beginner writing scripts for each of the Australian States and Territories. Individual student logins can be created. Covers writing patterns, numbers, lowercase alphabet and upper case alphabet.
School Fonts – Publisher: Demografix Pty Ltd, Price: $2.99, Made for iPhone
Brilliant handwriting App with fonts for all Australian States and Territories, New Zealand, the USA and the UK. Best of all, you can customise activities and use your own word lists. Individual student profiles are available and reports can be automatically emailed to parents or teachers. Setting up activities on class sets is quick and easy. Suitable for all ages, but particularly useful in lower and middle primary.

This versatile App has a lot to it, including a handy reference to just about every term related to English. You can search for specific terms, browse alphabetically, or browse by topic. As well as definitions, there are examples and links to facts sheets, web pages and other resources.
Vocabulary
Enchanted Dictionary 4 – 6th Grade – Publisher: Golden Communications LLC, Price: $1.99, iPad Only
Dictionary Game where students rearrange words to form (sentences) definitions of words. More than 650 words are organised alphabetically in Subject Categories and Subcategories. You can also add you own words and definitions in any category or subcategory, or you can create your own categories and subcategories related to specific topics, themes and subjects. Although the App is designed for children in years 4 to 6, it is useful for a wider range of ages.
Enchanted Dictionary 7-12th Grade – Publisher: Golden Communications LLC, Price: $1.99, iPad Only
Similar to the above version, but featuring content related to subjects covered in high school. There are over 800 words available and, as in the 4th – 6th Grade version, you can add your own words and definitions, and your own categories and subcategories.
Word Games
Word games and puzzles can help with spelling and reading. The word game list has a selection of some of the better puzzles I have found.
